How Can I Serve You?

My goal in these devotionals I send out each week is to serve you. I have to confess, I’m not always sure exactly what does that best. Oh, I know I need to know my audience—that’s you—I know I need to think about your needs, but the truth is, what I often feel, think, and believe will serve you best, won’t be the things that charge you up like a shot of illy Espresso. No, what I believe is best may cause you to pause. To reflect. To go deeper, so that yes, you’ll rise, but maybe not right away.

Let’s be honest, that’s not what “sells.” People want fast, fun and frivolous. Lift me up, now! Make me feel good, now! At QVC, we talked about the things our millions of customers wanted, and here was the bottom line: cheap and easy.

So especially if you’re new to this community, I want to say: I want to get to know you. I want to serve you as best I can.

I just love the way so many of you interact with me! So keep it up. I can serve you better as I get to know you more. But know this: sometimes I’ll be all charged up, and sometimes, reflective. And always real. I won’t dishonor you by giving you a trite answer or a quick fix.

I know no better way to serve than to return to the truth—that the biggest and best calling is to know God.

“Jesus’ calls to each one of us is a call to be aware of his presence,” wrote Dr. David Benner in Surrender to Love (a book I’ve read multiple times over to keep getting grounded in the most important truth of all: that God is love, and calls us into His infinite love).

My deepest prayer for you, dear friend, is that you know of this great God who, motivated by love, chose to serve and not be served. Yeah, He’s that kind of God.

I’m real because God is so real.

CALLING

As you’re praying and reading the Scriptures over the next few days and weeks, is God nudging you in a particular way? How may I help you with this? In other words, how can I serve you?
